April 2016 Match of the Month

Mark and Kevin are our Match of the Month for April! They have been together for two years; Mark is the Big and Kevin is the little. Kevin’s favorite things to do when he’s with Mark are “guy” things, which is something Kevin doesn’t get to do much of because he lives in a house full of women! Together they enjoy sporting events, watch movies, eat pizza, and play basketball together. Mark shows his support for Kevin by showing up and cheering him on at his wrestling matches and football games.

Mark’s passion to be a Big stemmed from his desire to be there for someone and provide a kid with the support he needs. Mark and Kevin’s relationship wasn’t successful overnight, thought! It needed time to grow and development until Mark became that someone in Kevin’s life. Mark says that he was unsure of how Kevin felt, until one day Kevin text Mark a photo of his report card! Kevin was so proud of himself and his progress and he wanted to share his achievements with Mark! It was at that point that Mark knew how important he was to Kevin.

When Mark became a Big Brother, he knew that he had a very busy schedule. He had a lot on his plate; he had a new wife and was a doctoral resident. Scheduling challenges may seem like a barrier, but this match has found ways to work around their busy schedules by remembering to be flexible! Mark and Kevin stay in contact by texting or calling each other and scheduling shorter outings that work for them!
