     WHO WE ARE

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan, we believe in the dignity and worth of all individuals.  We believe that each young person deserves unconditional support and acceptance, no matter their race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.  We encourage any and all interested young people and potential mentors to inquire and learn more about being in a supportive, developmental mentoring relationship.

OUR VALUES

Picture

ACCESS

Provide access to positive mentorship for every young person who needs us.

~No matter their background, experiences, circumstances or need, we are committed to ensuring every young person has a positive mentor
in their lives.
~We meet young people where they are.
~Recognizing and valuing who they are, where they live and how they
connect, we create access to resources, people, and opportunities that meet young people where they are.

OPPORTUNITY

Create a community that fosters connection.

~When young people are a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters, they have a
community of supportive relationships and meaningful connections empowering them to reach their full potential and thrive in life.
~We safeguard youth and cultivate the trust of all BBBS participants.
With the support of a caring mentor, youth feel a sense of belonging -
connected to who they are, to what community represents, and to
where they can go.
~We consider safety and well-being to be multi-dimensional (or
holistic), including emotional and physical safety, risk reduction, and
safe relationships and environments—all core components of youth
well-being.

BELONGING

Empower young people to learn, lead and grow.

~Whether in a workplace, a school, or in the community, we empower
young people through relationships that give them the confidence
and skills to navigate life and thrive.
~The thread and values of every single thing we do is to empower this
promise of potential for young people because we know mentorship is a transformative solution for young people, our economy and our society.
